Art is an important part of North Iowa. To celebrate both the creative elements of nature and people, five kinetic wind sculptures forming a “Wind Forest” have been placed in the Garden. Three are located in the Ornamental Grass Garden: “Sail”, “Double Dancer” and “Single Helix”. The Indian Summer Garden features the mesmerizing “Double Spinner” and the “Meridian” is found mixed in with the Wildflower Garden. Created by Arizona sculptor Lyman Whitaker, these delicate combinations of fine balance and simplicity in copper and steel add movement, ambiance and height to provide hours of gazing to garden visitors.

"I've always been interested in science, especially the double helix spiral representing the DNA molecule," Lyman says. "Not only is it the symbol for infinity, it also ties into the basis of all life forms."
