First Year Successes

With excellence as a standard, we developed the vision for Central Gardens, laid groundwork through programming, and created an organization to grow that vision to reality. This required developing structures, priorities and procedures and above all recruiting excellent volunteers to guide and accomplish our goals.

Selection of our five commitments was critical. They remain the criteria by which we select, implement and assess our activities.
They are:

Excellence
Beauty
Education
Horticultural Knowledge
Building the Garden.

Programming was instituted to involve as many people as possible, to educate the public, and to tell our evolving story. All three programming areas, Education, Events and Projects are totally dependent on volunteers and sponsors or contributors. Since Central Gardens of North Iowa is a volunteer organization, the quality and commitment of those volunteers is the first harvest of this garden. More than 500 individuals and 80 businesses, foundations, organizations and public entities have combined efforts to make this a success.
